Delete your BetterCall account

This page explains how to permanently delete your BetterCall account and the personal data we hold about you as the service provider. It applies to the BetterCall mobile app (Google Play and App Store) and bettercall.ie.

How to delete your account

Choose one of the options below. Deletion through the app or website is immediate once confirmed.

Option 1 — In the BetterCall app (recommended)

  2. Go to Profile (bottom navigation).
  3. Scroll down and tap Close account permanently.

Go to account settings

Option 3 — By email

If you cannot access the app or website, email privacy@bettercall.ie from the email address linked to your BetterCall account. Include “Delete my BetterCall account” in the subject line. We will verify your identity and complete deletion within 30 days.

Before you delete

  • If you own a team that still has other members or patient records, you must transfer ownership or erase that team data first. Deletion will be blocked until this is resolved.
  • Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • You do not need an account to read most clinical reference content on BetterCall. Deleting your account only removes signed-in features tied to your profile.

Data that is deleted

When your BetterCall account is deleted, we erase the following personal data associated with your account:

  • Your sign-in account (Firebase Authentication user ID, email, and display name).
  • Your doctor / locum profile (name, phone, professional identifiers, grade, specialties, workplace, job title).
  • Documents and files you uploaded (for example CV, training certificates, portfolio evidence).
  • Job applications, job preferences, and job-alert settings.
  • Time entries, calendar events, tasks, favourites, and usage data tied to your account.
  • Push notification tokens and end-to-end encryption public keys stored for your account.
  • Teams you solely own with no other members and no patient records (the team and its data are removed).
  • Your membership on teams owned by others (your name and role are removed from those teams).

Data that may be kept

  • Clinical / patient records on hospital teams: If you entered patient data as part of a team, that clinical record normally remains with the team and the responsible healthcare organisation. Your personal identifiers are removed from team membership, but patient records are not automatically deleted — contact your team lead or privacy@bettercall.ie if you need help with a data-subject request for clinical data.
  • Security audit logs: Records of certain actions (for example sign-in or clinical access) are kept for security monitoring, but your user ID and email are replaced with [erased] at deletion. These redacted entries may be kept for as long as needed for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
  • Compliance record of deletion: A single immutable log entry is created recording that your account was erased. It contains a one-way hash of your former user ID — not your name or email — for fraud-prevention and regulatory evidence.
  • Backups: Encrypted infrastructure backups may briefly retain copies of deleted data until those backups are rotated and purged as part of normal operations.
